If your emails aren't getting seen, they can't be read, clicked, or acted on. Deliverability is what determines whether your carefully written messages show up in your contact’s inbox—or disappear into the promotions tab or, worse, the spam folder.
The good news? Deliverability isn’t mysterious. It’s not reserved for tech wizards or huge marketing teams. There are clear, manageable steps you can take to ensure more of your emails land where they should—right in front of your people.
With AttractWell, everything you need to send better emails is already built in. You don’t need a separate email marketing tool or a pieced-together workflow. From client records to newsletters, lead magnets to follow-ups, it’s all part of one simple system.
In this post, we’re covering the most important things you can do right now to improve your email deliverability—especially if you’re building a list, switching platforms, or want to stop wasting energy on emails no one sees.

1. Use a domain-based email address
This one change can make a bigger difference than you might think. When you send emails from a free address—like Gmail, Yahoo, or AOL—you’re automatically at a disadvantage. Inboxes are trained to treat these addresses with caution, especially when used in mass messaging.
Using a domain-based email, like hello@yourbusiness.com, tells email providers that you’re a legitimate sender with an established web presence. It also allows for technical validation that free services simply don’t support.
If you're using AttractWell, check your contact info to make sure you're not still sending from a free email. And if you don’t have a domain-based address yet, we can help you set one up.
2. Set up a custom email server
Even if you’re using a domain email, your messages may still go out through a shared server unless you've taken this next step. When your emails share a delivery pipeline with hundreds of others, their behavior can impact your results. If someone else gets flagged for spam, your deliverability suffers too.
That’s why AttractWell offers free custom email server setup. This gives you a private sending identity, separate from anyone else. It also enables authentication records like SPF, DKIM, and DMARC—required for inboxes to trust you over time.
All you have to do is request the setup through support. It’s quick, one-time, and highly worth it.
3. Encourage contacts to add you to their address book
This is one of the simplest ways to improve inbox placement—and almost no one does it. If your contact adds you to their address book, inbox providers like Gmail and Outlook automatically prioritize your messages. You’ll bypass most filtering and land where it counts.
With AttractWell, you can make this easy by uploading a .vcf file to your file manager. This digital contact card can include your name, email, website, and even your logo. Just create it using your phone’s Contacts app, upload it, and share the link in your confirmation page and Day 0 email. A simple line like, “Add me to your contacts so you never miss an update,” is all it takes.

4. Start strong with your first sentence
Your subject line isn’t the only thing people see in their inbox. Most email clients display the first line of the message right next to it. If that line just says “Hi [Name],” or opens with a logo or image, you're wasting valuable preview space.
Instead, lead with something meaningful. Offer a quick win, hint at what’s inside, or ask a question that makes them curious enough to open. Think of this first sentence as your second subject line—it can make or break your open rate.
5. Format emails for the inbox—not the promo tab
Inbox providers evaluate not just what you say, but how you say it. Emails with lots of images, heavy styling, or overly “salesy” language are far more likely to land in the promotions tab or spam folder. Even if your content is helpful, the format can flag you.
Here’s what works: write like a real person. Keep your formatting simple, use plain-text style layouts, limit images, and avoid red fonts or big calls-to-action. One image per email is plenty, and always include alt text. If your email feels like a message from a friend—not a marketing blast—it’s more likely to make it through.
6. Warm up engagement early and often
Your sender reputation is shaped by how people interact with your emails—especially early on. When someone first joins your list (or when you first start emailing them), inboxes watch closely. Do they open? Click? Reply? Or ignore you entirely?
The Day 0 email matters. But so does what comes after—especially if you’re emailing a migrated list. When in doubt, send a message that encourages clicks and replies. Give them a reason to engage: a lead magnet, a quick question, or a prompt to respond.
And don’t forget your confirmation or thank-you page. Use that space to tell them what to expect, ask them to check their inbox now, and even invite them to reply.
7. Be cautious with old lists
If someone hasn’t heard from you in a while—especially 6 months or more—inboxes treat that as risky. These are sometimes called “cold” contacts. Even if they signed up willingly, they may have forgotten who you are or why they joined. If they ignore your email or mark it as spam, your sender reputation takes a hit.
The solution? Reintroduce yourself slowly. Segment older contacts, tag them accordingly, and send in small batches. Use simple, personal emails that remind them of the value you offer—before making any asks or offers.
8. You're new to inboxes—even if your list knows you
When you migrate to a new email platform—like AttractWell—you’re starting fresh in the eyes of inbox providers. Your subscribers may recognize your name, but Gmail and Outlook don’t yet know or trust your new sending domain.
That’s why it’s important to warm things up gradually. Begin by emailing your most engaged contacts. Use short, plain-text messages to rebuild your reputation. Broadcasts are great here, especially if you’re continuing a relationship from another platform. You can always add automations once engagement is steady.
9. Test your emails before sending
Want to know if your email is likely to land in spam? You don’t have to guess. Free tools like Mail-Tester let you send a message to a test address and get an instant deliverability score.
These tools analyze your content, formatting, links, and authentication records. If anything looks risky, they’ll let you know before you send to your list. It’s one of the simplest ways to protect your sender reputation.
